Amanda Anisimova took her first ever WTA 1000 title in Doha after winning the final match against Jelena Ostapenko by 6-4 6-3. This surprising final's line-up was quite an unpredictable one, even though Ostapenko's dominant performance throughout the whole week made her a slight favourite with an average odd 1.67.

The pre-match analysis could expect, that this afternoon will be on Ostapenko's racquet, unless she keeps up the exceptional striking level from all the previous matches in Doha. This has not materialized though, as the Latvian made as much as 19 unforced errors in the opening set, and her level of consistency during serve was significantly not up to par with the comprehensive performance of Anisimova, who took the opener after just 36 minutes. The second set got interrupted by rain conditions during the score 3-3. Anisimova, being just 3 games close to clinch the title, handled the pressure perfectly after the break. She broke the Latvian's serve in 7th game and saved the breakpoint in own game to move up by 5-3. Ostapenko did not manage to stay in contention, losing her serve for the 5th and last time to the American who clinched her biggest career's success so far. Winning just 19 out of 25 Pressure Points on the opponent's serve was a huge display of great form from Anisimova, who brought her A-game when it was needed the most.

Ranking movements

The new WTA 1000 winner capitalizes on her great success, moving up to career's highest 18th place in WTA rankings. It's an impressive story, knowing that Anisimova has come back to the tour last year after taking quite a long break in 2023. It's also the 4th place in WTA Race, and the prospects for great season ahead to continue. Ostapenko also climbs back closer to the areas where she used to belong in the rankings. After dropping down to 37th, she regains 16 places and sits in 10th spot for the 2025 ranking.
