The local favorite and one of the title contenders of Australian Open 2023 is out from the tournament after today's announcement of withdrawal due to the knee injury. Kyrgios pulled out of other events preceding the opening grand slam of the season, while feeling discomfort in his knee. It led the Aussie to undergo an MRI, which results prompted him to withdraw from his home grand slam in order to prevent any longer injury and further complications.
Last year's Wimbledon finalist left a slot in main draw which is now filled by lucky loser - Denis Kudla, who will face Roman Safiullin in Tuesday's match of Round 1.
"Yeah, I'm devastated obviously. It's like my home tournament. I've had some great memories here. Obviously last year winning the title in doubles and playing the best tennis of my life probably. Then going into this event as one of the favourites, it's brutal. All I can do now is just look forward, do what I need to do and come back." - said Kyrgios during his press conference, where he announced the withdrawal.
