The second day of United Cup semifinals began with the third clash between the Polish and USA national teams. On the court this time appeared the highest ranked male from both team – Hubert Hurkacz nad Taylor Fritz. The match on a fairly fast court between two well-serving players did not promise many breaks. This fact was confirmed in the first set, when despite several break points, none of the players won the rival's service game and we saw a tie-break in that set , which ended with Fritz winning 7:5, after the only mini-break during the last action of the set. The second set had a similar course, with the difference that during the tie-break at some point it seemed that we would witness the third. However, two unforced errors of the Pole in the end resulted in a loss and changing the result to 3:0 for the USA. The next two matches had a different emotional genre. Madison Keys beats Magda Linette 6:4, 6:2 and next the American mixed was better than Poles, winning 6:7 (4), 6:4, 10:6. The final result left no doubt who was better, 5:0 for the USA.
Stefanos Tsitsipas kept the hopes of team Greece due to his win against Matteo Berretini in undoubtfuly best match of the day. The three-setter was a great show of tennis from both players and it could be an introduction about what can we expect from the advanced stages of the upcoming Australian Open between top males in the field. Tsitsipas was very thankful to all the Greek fans in the audience after the match, but his effort was not enough, as Valentini Grammatikopoulou caused no upset against Lucia Bronzetti who gained expected and deserved 6-2 6-3 win and secured a final spot for Italy. Mixed doubles were won by Italians in super tie-break, sealing the convincing 4-1 win in whole the semifinal tie.
Tomorrow's final will start with a match between Martina Trevisan and Jessica Pegula who has withdrawn from the WTA 500 Adelaide 2 tournament due to her commitment in the United Cup, and Martina Trevisan. Frances Tiafoe vs Lorenzo Musetti. Third scheduled matchup is Taylor Fritz vs Matteo Berrettini, last singles will be played by Madison Keys and Lucia Bronzetti.
