Daniil Medvedev won the final match of ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam, defeating Jannik Sinner in three sets 5-7 6-2 6-2. It's the 16th career's title for the former world number one.
The final clash was a promise of great tennis spectacle, as both players proved to be in form, showing the impressive performances throughout all the week in Netherlands. The opening set has not dissapointed those hopes, as both players were playing an intense high-quality tennis, showing some great rallies and shots from both sides. Sinner was the first to gain a break advantage in 4th game, but Medvedev leveled the score in 7th game. The Italian prevailed to break his opponent another time in 12th game, using the first set point and clinching the set.
It was the end of good performance from Sinner though, as Medvedev was putting immense pressure on the Italian, who seemed to be quite gassed after an intense opening set which lasted 68 minutes. It was one man show since then, as the Russian won second set 6-2 and the deciding one with the same score.
Winning the title in Rotterdam helped Medvedev in coming back into top 10. The US Open 2021 champion will be ranked 8th on Monday's list. Sinner gained two places and advances into 12th. Keeping this kind of level and consistency, it's just the matter of time when the Italian will join his today's opponent in top 10.
