The tournament has a really strong draw topped by Taylor Fritz. The best ranked US male advanced into semifinal defeating another Americans on his road. The easy straight set win against Jack Sock was followed by some battle which Fritz needed to fight against Marcos Giron. The seed #7 forced a decider against the tournament's favorite, but Fritz prevailed and will face Yibing Wu in the semis.
The Chinese, who has a great record of matches during last 52 weeks, with 44 wins and just 9 losses so far, is visible in the top ranks of TennisRatio data analysis due to his dominant and consistent performances showed in the ATP Challenger Tour competitions. While it gave him the entrance into the field of top 100 players in the world, Wu capitalizes that also on the ATP level, playing a wonderful tournament so far.
After his first round three-sets win against Michael Mmoh, Wu achieved the best win of his career so far, making a huge upset against Denis Shapovalov, winning 7-6 6-4 against favorized Canadian. The Chinese did not stop on that, eliminating another seed, this time turning out to be better than Adrian Mannarino in quarterfinal duel, 6-3 6-4.
There is no mistery, that John Isner is an absolute king of serve, aces and tie-breaks. The 37 years-old American proves this again this week, as he reaches out the semifinal after three straight-sets wins streak, where 5 out of all 6 sets were won by him in tie-breaks. No single service game lost and 63 aces in summary is the typical Isner performance, who seems to catch the wind in his sails again.
J J Wolf will be Isner's semifinal opponent. The American who plays the best season in his career so far, follows his Australian Open's 4th round run with another great display of form, defeating tournament's 2nd seed Frances Tiafoe after entertaining three-setter 4-6 6-3 6-4.
