Camila Osorio won the third title of her career, lifting the WTA 250 Copa Colsanitas trophy on home soil in Bogota. Both of the Colombian’s previous tournament victories also came at this event, including her first in 2021 and the title she won last year - which she successfully defended this year. Osorio defeated Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa in a straightforward final on Sunday, winning 6-3, 6-3, and leading in both sets from start to finish.

As always, the line-up at the Colombian event was far from impressive. There were no players ranked inside the WTA top 50, and being inside the top 100 was enough to earn a seeding. The top two seeds were players familiar with success at this event. The number one seed, Marie Bouzkova, was last year’s runner-up, having lost to Osorio in the 2024 title match.

Match point saved on the road to the title

The local favorite was seeded second and took full advantage of a favorable draw, facing only one player ranked inside the top 150 (!) on her way to the title - Tatjana Maria in the quarterfinals, which she won 6-1, 6-3. However, she came dangerously close to an early exit in the round of 16 against world No. 186, Emina Bektas. The American, who had hovered around the top 100 a couple of seasons ago, is known for her strong serving. She started the match very well against Osorio, where she was considered a clear underdog (7.40 average pre-match odds), winning the first set 6-1 and serving for the match at 5-3 in the second. Osorio fought back to level the score but faced a match point on her own serve in the next game. That proved to be the pivotal moment of the tournament, as she saved it, forced a decider after a tight tiebreak, and eventually went on to win the match 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-2.

Kawa’s wild ride to the final

Katarzyna Kawa emerged as the standout performer among the lower-ranked players who made deep runs at this event. The 32-year-old Pole, ranked 223rd at the start of the tournament, has mostly found success at the ITF level and is also a capable doubles player, but had never made a significant mark on the WTA Tour. Her career-best ranking of No. 112 came back in 2020. However, the appearance in the final of the WTA 250 range tournament is nothing new for the Pole, who has already played in title match of the event in Latvian's Jurmala in 2019 - getting defeated there by Anastasia Sevastova. Kawa earned a place in Bogota's main draw through qualifying, where she played an epic battle against Romania’s Patricia Maria Tig. The match lasted a staggering 4 hours and 14 minutes (!) and ended with a scoreline of 7-5, 7-6(2), 7-6(6). Few would have expected such an exhausting encounter to be followed by a stunning run to the final.

Kawa was rewarded for her qualifying efforts with a relatively kind draw up to the quarterfinals. There, she faced top seed Marie Bouzkova, the clear favorite. But Kawa pulled off a major upset - rated at 4.43 odds - beating the Czech in yet another dramatic three-setter. The match lasted just under three hours, with Kawa leading 4-1 and serving for it at 5-3 before Bouzkova leveled. Still, Kawa showed great resilience, holding her nerve to claim the biggest win of her career with a 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 victory. She secured her place in the final with a win over another breakout player of the tournament - 16-year-old American Julieta Pareja, who made an impressive debut in her first WTA main draw.

Ranking movements

Camila Osorio moves up just one place in the WTA rankings, as she was defending all her points from last year's title. However, the other deep runs in the tournament led to significant ranking jumps. Katarzyna Kawa climbs 67 spots to reach No. 156, while Julieta Pareja rises by over 200 positions to land at No. 335.
