The Trophée Clarins has pulled off the kind of player list that WTA 125 events rarely see. Last year's Grand Slam champion at the top of the draw, six players from top 50 of WTA rankings and all the seeded competitors ranked in top 60 promise a high-quality week of clay-court tennis at the Lagardère Paris Racing club in the Bois de Boulogne. It offers the perfect opportunity for many well-known names to get the valuable match practice and WTA points in the second week of WTA 1000 event in Rome and just before Grand Slam action starting in the French capital in just two weeks.
Madison Keys leads the field as top seed of main draw, getting the late wild card, being a featured player of the event. The 2025 Australian Open champion is not the only one highly esteemed name, as Leylah Fernandez, Emma Navarro and reigning champion from 2025 - Katie Boulter, do also headline the packed draw. Youngsters Maya Joint and Sara Bejlek will try to challenge the top stars of the event, being on the rising curve in clay court competitions.
Keys and Boulter on collision course in top half
Top seed Madison Keys enters with impressive form on the red dirt, posting a 9-4 record (69.2%) over the past 12 months. The American opens against French wild card Fiona Ferro - the former world number 39, currently ranked 197th in WTA list. Ferro is on a resurgent path, with recent clay court challenger victory in Oeiras, earned at the end of April. Keys is looking to capitalize on her strong clay court serving statistics that include 4.4 aces per match and 70.0% first serve points won. The world number 19 has recently faced an unexpected upset from Nikola Bartunkova in Rome, but has strong clay court credentials with latest semifinals run in Charleston and last year's quarterfinal in Roland Garros.
Her projected quarterfinal opponent is eighth seed Katie Boulter - the Trophée Clarins champion from last year. The British star faces Kimberly Birrell in first round. The world number 82 will try to get along well with clay after having no wins in five matches on the surface in the last 52 weeks.
Boulter reflected on last year's victory in an exclusive interview for TennisRatio.com, held in February's WTA Ostrava Open which has also ended up with eventual title.

Fourth seed Emma Navarro enters this tournament immediately needing a confidence boost after losing five consecutive matches. The American's clay court statistics reveal concerning weaknesses - she's converted just 34.5% of break points and holds a disappointing 2-4 surface record with last win held in opening round of WTA 500 Strasbourg in May 2025. Navarro opens against Lola Radivojevic before potentially meeting seventh seed Yuliia Starodubtseva, who defeated Keys convincingly in Charleston earlier this year during the sensational run to Charleston Open final as a qualifier. Starodubtseva faces a qualifier in round one and boasts the section's best break point conversion rate at 59.8%.
The heatmap data reveals Madison Keys' serving dominance with excellent first serve effectiveness and ace production, while Yuliia Starodubtseva stands out for her clutch break point conversion and match efficiency. Fiona Ferro impresses with her return skills same as dominance and match efficiency ratios which underline her ability to translate the performance into winning matches - same as she did recently during title run in Oeiras.
Keys leads her head-to-head series against Navarro 5-2, though their most recent meeting at Roland Garros 2024 went to Navarro in straight sets. If both top seeds of top half advance, their projected semifinal would likely favor Keys on current form, especially given Navarro's recent struggles and poor clay court conversion statistics.

Fernandez leads the chase in bottom half
Second seed Leylah Fernandez brings solid recent form with a 7-3 record in her last ten matches across all surfaces. The Canadian southpaw has shown resilience on clay, converting 45.0% of her break point opportunities despite a more modest 7-7 surface record in the last 52 weeks. Fernandez has noted a disappointing start to the season on hard courts, but her recent performances were rewarded with back-to-back quarterfinals in Stuttgart and Madrid. The world number 23 begins against Anna Blinkova who has won nine of her 18 clay matches played on clay in the rolling year. The Russian has advanced into semifinals of WTA 125 challenger in Saint Malo on week ago. Despite posting just a 7-6 clay record this season, Fernandez has shown improved consistency with seven wins in her last ten matches. Her 65.1% break point save percentage demonstrates the fighting spirit that carried her to Grand Slam final early in her career.
The Canadian's path to potential semifinals should run through fifth seed Sara Bejlek, who opens against a qualifier. The 20 years-old Czech player has stunned the field with her run to the Abu Dhabi WTA 500 title in Abu Dhabi, but has barely played since then, winning just one match on clay in Charleston till now. Bejlek has all the quality to excel on clay though with three WTA 125 titles from 2025 season under her belt.
Third seed Maya Joint faces French wild card Chloe Paquet in her opener, though the Australian arrives in poor form with seven consecutive losses. Current world number 34 was one of the revelations last year, but faces struggles in second season on top level. Joint knows how to play on clay though, as she won the title in WTA 250 Rabat in last season. Her 13-5 record on red dirt in 2025 was build on strong return statistics of 42.7% on first serves. Her projected quarterfinal opponent, sixth seed Mccartney Kessler, opens against experienced Yulia Putintseva in one of the most interesting match-ups of first round.
The bottom half's statistical profile shows Maya Joint's exceptional match efficiency despite her recent losing streak, while Sara Bejlek impresses with strong return game metrics and dominance ratio. Mccartney Kessler also shows positive indicators in break point conversion, suggesting the potential for upset results if Joint's poor form continues into this tournament. Leylah Fernandez impresses with her first serve efficiency, although struggles with 4.3 double faults per match on clay and poor numbers on return.

With Roland Garros opening on 24 May, the Trophée Clarins offers most of this field one of their last opportunities for competitive clay-court tennis before the year's second major. For the eight seeds - six of them ranked inside the WTA top 50 - that makes a week in Bois de Boulogne worth more than the WTA 125 points alone.
