The first day of main draw WTA and ATP tournaments in Adelaide has started with a massive clash between Bianca Andreescu and Garbine Muguruza. The Canadian presented no-show performance with losing a bagel against well-playing Muguruza in the opening set of the first centre-court match of the day. Second set started well for Andreescu who gained the first break in third game, but then it was Spaniard who won 4 games in a row and run away with the score to the state 6-0 5-2. Nevertheless, the visually strong one-way scoreline was just a one set and one break advantage, which turned over in the ninth game of 2nd set, when Muguruza did not manage to serve out her first victory of the season. Losing the tie-break with just 3 points on the table, Garbine was nowhere near her initiative performance in a decider, which was won easily by Andreescu who started her 2023 campaign with quite a headline.
The opening match of ATP 250 tournament was between Marcos Giron and Richard Gasquet was also not drama-free. Two first sets did not bring any breaks, as players has shared both tiebreaks between them. The first break came into reality in 8th game of the dedicer, when Gasquet broke Giron and was serving for the match in the next one. Despite his brilliant serving performance throught the whole match, Frenchman has not converted two match points with his own serve and gave it away, losing also his another service game with a 5-5 on the scoreboard.
Tomorrow's gameplan is full of brilliant action, as it will bring an absolute top game between Danielle Collins and Elena Rybakina. It will be the last match on the centre court, not before 18:30 local time. It will be preceded by another interesting clashes between Amanda Anisimova and Veronika Kudermetova, or Liudmila Samsonova vs Shuai Zhang. ATP order of play consists the names of Holger Rune, Felix Auger Aliassime and current Adelaide title holder Thanasi Kokkinakis as well.
