Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula withdrew from the upcoming WTA 500 Adelaide 2 tournament, which starts on Monday. Tournament hosts released the main draw today, but needed to make some adjustments, after world #1 and #3 who took part in this week's United Cup playoffs decided to pull off from the last tournament before Australian Open. The official reason stated by Swiatek is a shoulder injury, while Pegula decided to change her schedule because of the United Cup final, which she will compete in with US team.
Late withdrawals forced the tournament hosts to make some corrections into the draw. Because of that, Danielle Collins earned the last seeded spot. Collins who wants to gain some notable result before the AO where she will try to repeat a stunning performance from last year (maiden Grand Slam final appearance) will face a qualifier in her R1 match. It does not need to be a cakewalk, as the names competing in qualies this weekend are really strong.
Before we get know the full draw shape with names of players from qualies, some notable matches are set to be played on Monday and Tuesday. Belinda Bencic will face WC receiver Garbine Muguruza. Victoria Azarenka plays against Veronika Kudermetova, Anett Kontaveit clashes with Paula Badosa and Elena Rybakina will start another week with a hit clash, this time with Daria Kasatkina.
Here is the draw:
