The clear favorite of the United Cup final clash between the teams of the USA and Italy were the players of captain David Witt. The Americans showed during whole the United Cup tournament, that the team has no weak points, and the form shown at the beginning of the season by lined-up players is very stable.
The final competition was started by Jessica Pegula and Martina Trevisan. Despite winning the previvous match against Maria Sakkari by the Italian, the favorite was the American, who in the match with Poland easily beaten great dominator of last season - Iga Swiatek. Pegula did not disappoint US fans and she had the match under control from the beginning, eventually winning 6:4, 6:2.
The men’s part of the final competition was inaugurated by Frances Tiafoe and Lorenzo Musetti. Although both players won all their previous matches in the tournament, the victories of the American were more valuable, who competed with players from the top 100 of the ATP ranking in 3 out of 4 matches so far, while Musetti was facing the lower ranked opponents. The first set, despite the initial problems, ended with a clear victory of the American. Unfortunately due to issues with shoulder suffered by Italian, the second set did not come to the result and USA socred the second point in the tie.
Fans experienced the greatest emotions during the hit match between Taylor Fritz and Matteo Berretini. The match had a similar course to the previous duel of the American with Hubert Hurkacz because in both of these meetings there was no breaks and in each tie-break Taylor turned out to be better. He finally beaten the Italian with a score 7:6(4), 7:6(8). In the result, 25 years old sealed the main prize won by the USA national team.
While the tie's fates were decided, but the good form was also confirmed by the finalist of the Grand Slam in 2017 - Madison Keys, who confidently beat the Italian Lucia Bronzetti 6:3, 6:2. The mixed doubles match was cancelled.
